Swathysree S S  

Swathysree has a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. She holds an Integrated Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Hyderabad and is a recipient of the University Gold Medal for securing the first rank. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked with HSBC as a risk analyst for two years. Following her PhD, she worked as an Assistant Professor at O P Jindal Global University. 

Her research interests include political economy of growth and development process,industrial and trade policy, and technological change and innovation. Her doctoral thesis examined the evolution of India’s capital goods sector from the standpoint of technologicalcapabilities and the role of the state on the one hand and international integration on the other in shaping that trajectory.

Her research has been published in Journal of Quantitative Economics and Culture, Health & Sexuality. She has co-authored a report for the Department of Heavy Industry, Government of India and Engineering Export Promotion Council titled “Leveraging Trade Agreements to Boost Export from Indian Capital Goods Sector”. Her research was also featured in the economic and policy portal, Ideas for India, and in the media with the Hindu Business Line. 

She has also presented her research work in reputed international and domestic conferences such as Annual Workshop of Society for Economics Research in India (SERI), Annual Heterodox Economics (AHE), European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy (EAEPE) and IIMB Management Review Doctoral Conference (IMRDC). She was also selected to attend the 1st Unicamp International School on Development Challenges and the RIS-EXIM Bank Summer School on International Trade Theory and Practice.

Her teaching interests include Macroeconomics, Contemporary India and the Global Economy, Economic Development of Asia, Global Political Economy, International Trade and Development.
